Louis C.K. Bypasses Ticketmaster for 39-City Tour

Louis C.K. is starting to become the poster child for new distribution models for entertainment content. If you ‘are’ the content, why not own the distribution? The comedian made waves fairly recently when he sold downloads of his comedy special “Live at the Beacon” for 5 bucks. It made more than $1M in less than 2 weeks and other popular comedians began to follow suit.

Louis C.K. is back to disruption again with his upcoming 39-city tour. He’s selling all tickets at a $45 flat rate. Regardless of city, regardless of seat. And he’s selling them exclusively through his website. Not through Ticketmaster.

Louis CK on his philosophy for keeping ticket prices down (even though he probably nets more going direct to consumers…)

“About a year ago I reached a place where I realized I am making enough money doing comedy so the next thing that interested me is bringing your price down,” he told fans. “Either way, I still make a whole lot more than my grandfather who taught math and raised chickens in Michigan.”
